About Theora

Theora is a free and open video compression format developed by the Xiph.org Foundation. It can be used to distribute film and video online or on disc without licensing fees or vendor lock-in. Theora scales from small to HD resolutions and is particularly competitive at low bitrates, similar to MPEG-4/DivX. It was fully released on November 3, 2008, with a stable bitstream format since July 2004.
